Completion of Annex III Phase 1 on Infrastructure Asset Management marked by publication of high level overview report
Completion of the first Phase of Annex III, in relation to the management of the distribution asset base, has been marked by the publication of a high level overview report, describing the essence of the Annex III activities and its principal conclusions and recommendations. In addition, the six participants in this first Phase project each received a copy of the detailed Final Report, running to over 200 pages, this report documents all work carried out and provides a unique reference document on various approaches to asset management.The Annex III Phase 1 programme-of- work was based upon the systematic collation, analysis, synthesis, review and assessment of information and data, in relation to five principal asset groups, namely:-
• Transformers;
• Cables;
• Overhead lines;
• Switchgear; and
• Protection and Control.
Supported by six participating countries, Annex III responded to the clear requirement for power distribution companies to manage their asset bases in an economically efficient and effective manner. To this end, the adoption of risk based approaches to asset management was identified as the most cost effective method for the management of ageing asset bases.
A series of recommendations for future actions is also described in the report, with these forming the basis of a proposed follow-on, Phase 2, work programme.
